Cartmel Peninsular Local History Society - Report on 26th June meeting

Monday, 10 August 2009

Our first members workshop evening was held on 26th June.   Lots of interest was shown and the "Villages Project" was born.   The purpose of this project is to encourage research within the Society and to produce, as an outcome, a history or histories of the villages within the CPLHS area.   A short presentation was followed by discussion on different ways in which this could be achieved.   The initial village study would include Allithwaite, Kents Bank, Ravenstown, Field Broughton, Flookburgh and Meathop.   The Society would also encourage members who perhaps have done little or no research themselves, but would like to come along to find out more.   The next meeting will be held in Cartmel Village Hall at 7.30pm on Wednesday 9th September.

Our next lecture evening will be held at Cartmel Village Hall at 7.30pm on Thursday 24th September when Dr Michael Winstanley will talk about  "The Edwardian Domesday, 1909-1914": a unique source for local history.   All members and guests welcome.   Enquiries: 01539532591 or 01539533165
