Steam Trains on the Cumbria coast summer 2010
Friday, 15 January 2010
Cumbria Tourism has received notice of a new land cruise rail service that is being offered this year by Statesman Rail who operates The Fellsman train services. The Lakelander service will take in the scenic Cumbrian coast by journeying on a vintage steam train and is being piloted on four Saturdays through the summer this year. As the service is a pilot there are no specific leaflets being printed at present as every penny is being ploughed into providing the actual service. Please see the attached link for details of the service, route planned and journey dates (this link takes you to the first tour in May but other journey dates can be found in the Tour Programme page).
Be a Good Neighbour over the Christmas/New Year period
Wednesday, 23 December 2009
Over the festive season many Cumbrians will look in on neighbours to wish them well. This act is particularly appreciated by many older people living on their own. During the current cold snap good neighbour activities such as this are particularly important as sometimes relatives or carers can’t make it through the snow and ice. Anything local councils can do to encourage such local activity over the next few weeks would be greatly appreciated. If you are aware of any concerns about vulnerable people adults who you feel may need additional help during the cold snap please contact Adult Social Care on 01228 606060.

Cartmel Peninsular Local History Society

Our AGM was held on the evening of Thursday November 19, one of the wettest days in the history of Cumbria. Consequently there were 12 members present. The Chairman thanked the Committee members for all their hard work. Membership had again increased by 50% and now numbers 102. Reports were presented by the Secretary and Treasurer.
Special thanks went to Dr Stuart Alan, a founder member and now a life member, and his wife Rita. After the business side of the AGM was concluded refreshments were enjoyed, and this was followed by a quiz entitled Name this Place, presented by Nigel Mills. A series of old black and white photographs taken around the area were shown and this produced lively debate. Members were able to identify some of them. The meeting was closed at 9.00pm.
